DIY Beauty Recipe # 3

DIY Beauty Recipe # 3 is all about homemade face scrubs for all skin types.

Now without lecturing further on what is face scrub blah blah…lets jump on to the list of ingredients and how to choose the one that's right for you.

So, here we go….

Ingredient No. 1: Sugar or Salt
What is a scrub without an exfoliant? Sugar and salt works as a great exfoliant. There are varieties in each and you need to choose one that suits you well.
Sugar: Plain White Sugar, Brown Sugar
Salt: Iodized Table Salt, Black Lava sea Salt

HOW TO CHOOSE:
  • Sugar is less abrasive than salt, because it dissolves more easily.
  • Brown Sugar being softest is best for sensitive skin.
  • If your focus is to remove impurities and dead skin, then salt is your choice as it exfoliates well.
  • For cell regeneration, go for black lava sea salt as it not only removes dead skin but also increases cell activity.

Ingredient No. 2: Oil
Why add Oil? Oils are naturally antibacterial, and thus will help prevent any problems.
The oils from which you must choose are:
Avocado Oil, Olive Oil, Extra Virgin Coconut Oil, Safflower Oil and Almond Oil.

HOW TO CHOOSE:

  • Olive Oil won't clog your pores and is very good for your dry skin.
  • Safflower Oil is a fatty oil that can help calm irritated skin and prevent clogged pores.
  • Almond Oil improves skin tone and reduce the effects of the UVB rays.
  • Avocado Oil helps the skin to retain moisture.
  • Extra Virgin Coconut Oil helps prevent aging.

Ingredient No. 3: Fruits and Vegetables (Optional and yet not so Optional)

Though you can complete a scrub with above two ingredients only, still we advise that you add one or more of these fruits and vegetables. Their properties will help your skin even more for instance glow.

One thing to note over here is if you are adding fresh fruits and veggies than the shelf life of your scrub will be less and you need to refrigerate it. Hence, a drawback is you can't whip a large batch of scrub and need to make new every few days.

HOW TO CHOOSE:
  • Kiwis brighten your complexion and the seeds acts as an exfoliant.
  • Strawberries are best for brightening skin tone and are full of Vitamin C.
  • Pineapples are best for acne prone skin and also dissolves dead skin cells.
  • Tomato protects skin against UV rays.
  • Cucumber reduces water retention and hence reducing the puffiness.

Now we are all done with the ingredients lets move onto the recipe.

RECIPE:
  • Take a new jar or clean an old scrub jar to store this new scrub that we will be making now. It should be an air-tight container.
  • Measure exfoliate of your choice that will fill unto 3/4 of your storage container.
  • Measure out the oil to a 2:1 ratio. That is, oil must be twice as much as the exfoliant.
  • Mix thoroughly the oil and exfoliant in a seperate bowl.
  • Chop finely the fruits and veggies of your choice and pour them in the bowl too. Mix them well taking care that you don't stir it much. Avoid the exfoliant getting dissolved or else you will lose the granules or rough texture of exfoliants.
  • Pour this mixture in your storage container/s and refrigerate. It can be used unto 2 weeks.

SOME MORE TIPS……..

  • MOISTURIZE + TIGHTEN: Use Salt, Tomato and Olive Oil. It will help retain your skin's elasticity.
  • PROTECT + CLARIFY: Use Sugar, Safflower Oil and Kiwi. It will brighten your skin.
  • BRIGHTEN + TONE: Use Sugar, Almond Oil and Strawberries. It will even out your complexion.
  • SOOTHE + CALM: Use Brown Sugar, Avocado Oil and Cucumber. It works well for sensitive skin and has good restorative effects.
  • EXFOLIATE + DEEP CLEAN: Use Black Lava Sea Salt, Coconut Oil and Pineapple. It will clarify and soothe your skin.

I hope this article helps you and you too end up making lots and lots of scrubs as per your needs.

DIY Beauty Recipe # 2

DIY Beauty Recipe # 2 is for Homemade Foundation. Yes you read it right…Homemade Foundation. Now, you can make foundation at home with natural stuff and say goodbye to harsh chemicals.

Foundation is a bit tricky as its a makeup that you will end up applying on your face for few hours at least. It needs to go on well, stay put, match skin tones and not clog your pores. So, now you see how challenging it is. But once you get the hang of it and master this art of homemade makeup it will be easy.

Another few points to remember:

  1. Its not like 2+3 = 5. You need to experiment with ingredients a bit to work out a color that matches your skin tone.
  2. Its organic. We will use all organic stuff.
  3. Just because its natural, doesn't mean that its perfect.

Now lets move on to ingredients.

List of Ingredients:

For the Base:
  • Arrowroot Powder
Add one or a combination of:
  • Cocoa Powder
  • Ground cinnamon
  • Nutmeg
  • Jojoba, Olive or Almond Oil (Optional)

Recipe:

  1. Start with a base of Arrowroot Powder. One teaspoon for dark skin and one tablespoon for lighter skin.
  2. Add in small measures of cocoa powder, ground cinnamon, nutmeg. It takes a little bit of experimentation and learning as to what tone you want to achieve.
  3. Add some oils (as mentioned above) to get more of a compact foundation rather than powdery. Start with 5 drops and keep pressing the powder till you achieve the desired texture.
Use a brush to apply foundation. Make sure to tap off the excess before applying.

Its a bit tricky but with patience and experience you will know. I hope this article helps you.

DIY Beauty Recipe # 1

The recipe I am going to share today is for your skincare during these harsh winters. These harsh conditions dueto cold dry weather can prove to be quite detrimental to your skin.

Today's recipe is for Chocolate Face Mask. Dark chocolate is not only good to eat but very healthy too.
Certain compounds found in chocolate benefit the skin. So here is the recipe:

  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 Tbsp cream or plain yogurt
  • 3 Tbsp oats

Oats is a bit rough in texture and hence if the one you have is not powdery you will have to grind it. Once all powders ready, mix them all together. You can even use a blender. Blend/mix till you get a smooth paste.

Apply this paste to clean, dry skin and leave for 15-20 minutes. Rinse with warm water. Pat dry.

Usually above mentioned measures are good enough for making mask for one time application. But if some of it is leftover, you can keep it in fridge and use next day.

If your skin is too dry and you feel a need to apply mask every 2-3 days, then you can keep a mixture of cocoa powder, honey and grinded oats in a jar. And then add yogurt only when you want to apply the mask. This will save your time.

How to Design and Create Jewelry -- Step By Step

 1. Select few beads and lay them out onto a flat surface, as you would assemble them in a necklace. Its very important to first get an idea on how you intend your jewelry piece to look like. Once you are satisfied with the layout or design, I suggest click a picture with your mobile or camera for reference.

2. Now without disturbing the layout, pull out few chains and try to match them with this layout. The reason being, some chains look very beautiful but do not go along with all types of beads. So, I suggest to put chains one by one (or the few selected ones) next to beads in a circular fashion and then decide which one will complete this jewelry piece in a more elegant way.

3. Never think that I have so many beads, my chain or findings will never show up. Consider all possibilities and hairstyles for e.g., what if a girl wore your piece of jewelry with a hair bun style. The jewelry at the back of the neck will be visible to all in that case. So, be very careful with your chains and findings as you are careful while selecting beads.

4. Now comes the assembling part. You can use the photo taken earlier while assembling so that no mistakes are done. Once you have all beads in the chain, match it with photo. Check the length (usually I go for 19 inches min). Once you are completely happy with the layout and length, then only cut the chain and seal the ends with findings.

5. Its good to keep few jump rings at the both ends of the chain to provide an extra adjustable length. Another alternative is to ask your client directly if they are happy with the length or want it to be adjusted and then accordingly add jump rings.

Below is another set of pictures for another necklace
