DIY Beauty Recipe # 3
DIY Beauty Recipe # 3 is all about homemade face scrubs for all skin types.
Now without lecturing further on what is face scrub blah blah…lets jump on to the list of ingredients and how to choose the one that's right for you.
So, here we go….
Ingredient No. 1: Sugar or Salt
What is a scrub without an exfoliant? Sugar and salt works as a great exfoliant. There are varieties in each and you need to choose one that suits you well.
Sugar: Plain White Sugar, Brown Sugar
Salt: Iodized Table Salt, Black Lava sea Salt
HOW TO CHOOSE:
- Sugar is less abrasive than salt, because it dissolves more easily.
- Brown Sugar being softest is best for sensitive skin.
- If your focus is to remove impurities and dead skin, then salt is your choice as it exfoliates well.
- For cell regeneration, go for black lava sea salt as it not only removes dead skin but also increases cell activity.
Ingredient No. 2: Oil
Why add Oil? Oils are naturally antibacterial, and thus will help prevent any problems.
The oils from which you must choose are:
Avocado Oil, Olive Oil, Extra Virgin Coconut Oil, Safflower Oil and Almond Oil.
HOW TO CHOOSE:
- Olive Oil won't clog your pores and is very good for your dry skin.
- Safflower Oil is a fatty oil that can help calm irritated skin and prevent clogged pores.
- Almond Oil improves skin tone and reduce the effects of the UVB rays.
- Avocado Oil helps the skin to retain moisture.
- Extra Virgin Coconut Oil helps prevent aging.
Ingredient No. 3: Fruits and Vegetables (Optional and yet not so Optional)
Though you can complete a scrub with above two ingredients only, still we advise that you add one or more of these fruits and vegetables. Their properties will help your skin even more for instance glow.
One thing to note over here is if you are adding fresh fruits and veggies than the shelf life of your scrub will be less and you need to refrigerate it. Hence, a drawback is you can't whip a large batch of scrub and need to make new every few days.
HOW TO CHOOSE:
- Kiwis brighten your complexion and the seeds acts as an exfoliant.
- Strawberries are best for brightening skin tone and are full of Vitamin C.
- Pineapples are best for acne prone skin and also dissolves dead skin cells.
- Tomato protects skin against UV rays.
- Cucumber reduces water retention and hence reducing the puffiness.
Now we are all done with the ingredients lets move onto the recipe.
RECIPE:
- Take a new jar or clean an old scrub jar to store this new scrub that we will be making now. It should be an air-tight container.
- Measure exfoliate of your choice that will fill unto 3/4 of your storage container.
- Measure out the oil to a 2:1 ratio. That is, oil must be twice as much as the exfoliant.
- Mix thoroughly the oil and exfoliant in a seperate bowl.
- Chop finely the fruits and veggies of your choice and pour them in the bowl too. Mix them well taking care that you don't stir it much. Avoid the exfoliant getting dissolved or else you will lose the granules or rough texture of exfoliants.
- Pour this mixture in your storage container/s and refrigerate. It can be used unto 2 weeks.
